Children pretending to be Roman soldiers
“A children’s story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children’s story
in the slightest.”
C.S. Lewis

Man and child paddling

For children aged 6 to 60.

The books we love and remember
most are usually the ones we read
as children. Or, better still, had read
to us. (Don’t tell anyone, but the
junior partner still likes being
read to…)

We have a small but expanding
children’s section. The series Tram
Tales from the Manx Electric Railway

are stories designed for those in their
first couple of years at school, while
Things to do with Vikings and
A Young Manx History are factual
introductions aimed at older children.
In fact many adults say that Things
to do with Vikings
, is a good
introduction to the lives of the
Norsemen for adults too. Extra points
for those who notice the pun in the
title: thing is the Viking word
for assembly.

In general we try to avoid saying that
the books are for a particular
age-group as we feel that people
develop at their own pace. Besides,
books should be enjoyable whatever
the age of the person reading them…

Have a look at these and other
people’s lives through our books;
we hope you find something you like.
